Event: An Exploration of Arts, Culture and Music: Triumphs & Laments with Philip Miller
When: November 21, 7:00 pm
Where: Norman Rothstein Theatre, 950 W 41st Avenue, Vancouver, BC

You’re invited to experience Triumphs & Laments, a unique multi-media presentation that blends music, art, puppetry, performance, and a variety of cultural influences, presented by South African composer, Philip Miller.

The multi-layered Triumphs & Laments is a recording of the live performance, conceived by William Kentridge and Philip Miller, to inaugurate Kentridge’s epic frieze along the Tiber River. Power-washed onto the river’s stone embankment, the frieze is hailed as Rome’s largest public artwork since Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel.

Triumphs & Laments explores themes of exodus and exile, from ancient Roman history right up to the current refugee crisis and the displacement of people in the aftermath of wars all over the world.

Join Phillip Miller for an engaging evening as he discusses this extraordinary mural and explains how the dynamic and evocative creative process was realized.
