For those who missed the first evening of Oom Schalk Lourens Stories - there was another chance - back by popular demand! The stories are funny yet poignant accounts of life in the bushveld of South Africa in the 1940s, revealing human nature in all its forms and colours. Bosman's gently ironic humor, humane vision and ability to capture the mood and texture of rural Afrikaans communities to make him a favourite.

Fezeka Senior Secondary School unveiled eight new classrooms at their Guguletu Township school. The unveiling took place in the presence of the Mayor of Cape Town, the Canadian High Commission and other dignitaries. It made feature stories in the Cape Times and Cape Argus.
The school held a large concert where the new classrooms were unveiled while the school choir, dancers and an alumni tenor group performed. One of the performers was a Fezeka student-runner up in the South Africa Idol competition!
The concert was a huge success, attracting over 800 people as well as the press. The Mayor of Cape Town, Mrs. Mfeketo, said that she hoped the partnership between EWB and Fezeka would encourage not only the people of Fezeka but also the community of Guguletu to take part in bringing a better life to future generations.
One of the largest South African banks has now pledged an ongoing monthly donation. Other donation have been made as a result of the fundraiser.

The KindActs Network Association of BC invited Fezeka Secondary School to join its Invest in a Kinder World Coin-spiracy. The "Coin-spiracy" program encourages students to perform three acts of kindness: one to self, one toward the environment and one toward others. Once the three acts of kindness are performed, a coin (called the Uni) is passed onto the recipient of the kind act to re-start the cycle. Students can track their coin on the Internet to see where the coin has travelled. Fezeka School will have the unique honour of being the first school in Africa to receive this coin.
