Beyond Borders

Beyond our current focus in South Africa, we annually support a number of other projects that fit within our mandate. They can be local or international in scope. In 2014, they include:

  •  A project in Tanzania that has provided financial assistance to two young women (sisters, Doreen and Flora) who have been able to advance their education. Flora has since become a teacher. This project is spearheaded by Rene Merkel and Laurie Gould. Laurie has visited Tanzania for a second time and has returned with renewed enthusiasm.
  • Finding and illustrating a number of children’s stories in Mozambique. These stories will be uploaded onto the web site of the African Storybook Project. ASP’s vision is for all African children to have enough stories in a language familiar to them to practise reading and learn to love reading. EwB has already enabled two Fezeka High School students to translate and upload two English stories into isiXhosa!
  • The Adonis Musati Project that assists in the education of South African refugees. Funding has been provided by Nic Tsangarakis and Sharon Habib.
