EwB Holiday Program at Sbu’s soccer club

EwB has completed its first holiday program at Sbu’s soccer club in January 2021.

Sbu Nkosi played semi-professional soccer in South Africa. After retiring from the game, he wanted to "give back" to his community. He created a youth soccer team called Belinda Belinda Kings FC to provide a positive athletic outlet for youth in nearby townships (Valhalla Park, Gugulethu, Crossroads, Langa).

With limited resources, the club did well in tournaments and, in recent years, were tournament runners up to the wealthier Camps Bay soccer club. Sbu built a clubhouse next to his home in Montana (bordering Gugulethu), held practices on a nearby field, drove his loyal and enthusiastic players home safely after games and also started a homework assistance program. He asked EwB to assist with the academic part.

Approximately, 40-50 youth attended (mostly boys but 6 girls as well) the holiday program, with about 6 youth from Fezeka High in Gugulethu.
