Voices of EwB: Monde Mdingi

My name is Monde Mdingi. I was born in the Township of Gugulethu, Cape Town in South Africa. I started singing in the church choir, then proceeded to sing in the school choir at Fezeka Secondary under the baton of Mr. Tsewu. I then studied music at the University of Cape Town. I took over the Fezeka school choir in 2013 until 2020, when due to COVID-19, my services were no longer required at Fezeka. It was at this point that I was co-opted to join the Education without Borders (EwB) team. I am currently the coordinator of the Alumni Support Program and am a Tutor Mentor. I am truly grateful to EwB for the continuous care they showed during the devastating days of COVID-19. I had a stipend for up to five months even though I did not work due to the COVID-19 related restrictions. Even when I got ill, EwB did not hesitate to support me and I was able to buy my medication. I am very appreciative of the generosity and kindness that EwB illustrated during this time.
